Call for Board Members
Banyan Community is looking for creative, passionate, and strong senior business leaders to serve as volunteer board members. You must be willing to devote time and energy to this holistic and growing community development organization to help further our mission to develop youth, strengthen families, and create community in the Phillips neighborhood of south Minneapolis. We’re especially looking for individuals with financial experience, human resources experience, donor development, or previous board experience.
The next several years promise to be exciting ones for Banyan Community as we work to double the number of youth and families we serve! We now own a permanent home in the Phillips neighborhood, a prototype model for community development. The building is completely funded, growth comes in the form of our annual operating budget to support more youth and families.
Since our founding in 1998, our volunteer board has been the strategic heart of our organization, ensuring that our work is mission focused and always deliver the highest ethical standards to be worthy of our financial support.
If you hold yourself to high expectations, you will find board service very rewarding. We are looking for folks who will:
- Commit to the mission of Banyan and the fiduciary responsibilities of a board member
- Attend six board meetings annually
- Actively serve on one of our committees: Program, Development, Finance, Governance, or Facilities
- Advocate for our needs in the community and among your colleagues and peers
- Be always curious to learn more about Community Development as well as nonprofit governance
- Make a personal, charitable contribution to Banyan Community, to the best of their ability
If you are interested in being considered for our board, please contact the Development and Marketing Director to learn more. (612) 722-8512 or development@banyancommunity.org

“I am so grateful for Banyan. I trust Banyan and the staff here with my children, which is very important to me.”
“Sometimes I think of moving to the suburbs due to the drug and homeless issues but, then I think of Banyan and my neighbors, friends and family and I say – I CAN NEVER LEAVE PHILLIPS.”
“I’m glad I came to Banyan this summer or else I would just be at home bored watching TV instead of doing fun things like crafts.”
“I’m thankful that we have had Banyan to guide us through this college process. We have never done this before, and don’t know anything about college or financial aid. It was good to know that our son had Banyan to help him understand things and explain the steps.”

“I give to Banyan because I know that my gift will go a long way both in impact with the community as well as effectiveness with a well-run organization.”
