A Message From the Executive Director
Welcome to Banyan Community.
It is an honor to serve as Executive Director of an organization that has been transforming lives in South Minneapolis for more than 25 years. Banyan’s mission to develop youth, strengthen families, and create community is more than a statement. It is a commitment that guides every relationship we build, every program we offer, and every decision we make.
As the daughter of immigrants and someone who grew up benefiting from community support systems, I understand firsthand the importance of having people who believe in your potential. Those experiences shaped my values and continue to inspire my commitment to creating opportunities for young people and families to thrive.
At Banyan, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, every family deserves access to support, and every community member deserves to feel connected and valued. Through after-school programs, academic support, post-secondary success initiatives, family engagement opportunities, food and basic needs assistance, and community building activities, we work alongside our neighbors to build a stronger and more vibrant community.
What makes Banyan special is our commitment to long-term relationships. We do not simply provide services, we walk alongside youth and families through milestones, challenges, and successes. Whether we are helping a student prepare for high school, supporting a family during a difficult time, or celebrating a college graduation, we are invested in the journey.
The challenges facing our community are real, but so is the resilience, strength, and hope that exists within it. Every day, I am inspired by the young people, families, volunteers, donors, and partners who make this work possible. Together, we are creating opportunities, building connections, and investing in a brighter future for South Minneapolis.
