How satisfied are you with your job?  Pew Research has found that only 51% of employees feel an overall sense of satisfaction with their work. Interestingly, this feeling of satisfaction increases with age and differs by income and race. Employees also shared that their self-identity becomes more entwined with their career if they pursue postgraduate work. In a recent staff meeting we facilitated conversations about why we work at Banyan. These were some of the responses:

  • My coworkers are dedicated and passionate.
  • The work I do is meaningful and rewarding.
  • It’s important to me to be in a community development organization that prioritizes Latinos.
  • I get to build relationships with youth, offer a safe space to grow, and support the whole child.
  • It’s so rewarding to get to know families and witness their hard work ethic.
  • I believe in the work Banyan does and I have personally experienced the benefits of it.

Banyan Community values our employees because they are the backbone of our trust-based relationship. Three key words surfaced in the stories that were shared: support, dedication, and community.

Banyan believes that asset-based development is deeply relational and requires staff stability to build trust. The results of this commitment and consistency are born out in the high level of youth attendance and increased enrollment. From these strong relationships with youth and families, Banyan Community staff are themselves transformed and everyone is given an opportunity to grow.
