Deep Gratitude and New Beginnings
As we look back on another incredible year at Banyan Community and look ahead to continued growth and success, I am filled with gratitude for the remarkable individuals who have served and will serve on our Board of Directors. The dedication and commitment of our board members continually inspires us to transform lives by developing youth, strengthening families, and creating community. With that in mind, I want to thank our outgoing board members for their volunteer service and extend a warm welcome to the new members joining us in our work!
Thank You to Our Outgoing Board Members in 2024
A heartfelt thank you to Judy Pennington, Fellow & James J. Renier Chair in Management of Technology at the University of Minnesota. Judy’s leadership and expertise have guided our strategic direction through much change and helped us to remain optimistic and innovative.
We also deeply appreciate Sharon Smith-Akinsanya, CEO of Rae Mackenzie Group, Inc. Sharon’s championing of our community programming and her commitment to diversity and inclusion has enriched Banyan’s culture and ensured our programs are impactful and accessible.
Finally, we also celebrate the contributions this past year of our first-ever board scholar, Becky Torres, whose presence and participation on the board ensured the elevation of youth voice.
Judy, Sharon, and Becky have left an indelible mark on Banyan Community, and we are profoundly thankful for their service. Their contributions will shape our work for years to come.
Welcome to Our New Board Members
We are excited to welcome two outstanding individuals who have joined our Board of Directors!
Baribuma Kponi, HR Director at Comfort Autism Center, brings deep knowledge and lived experience in educational and organizational development. Buma will be a great resource for ensuring we remain an encouraging and supportive community in which to work and learn.
Mary Hibbs-Brenner, recently retired VP and CEO of Vixar, brings invaluable experience in business and leadership as well as an interest in child development and educational equity. Mary’s knowledge and passion will serve Banyan well as it embarks upon a new strategic plan.
Good governance is critical to a successful and sustainable nonprofit organization. The strength of our board reflects our commitment and responsibility to advancing our mission. Together, our board, staff, and community will continue to envision and expand programming that will have a deep and lasting impact in the Phillips Neighborhoods we have the opportunity to serve.
Sincerely,
Carl Schlueter
